Michael Mirmak reviewed the latest informal text proposals. Radek Biernacki Suggested avoiding language of "terminations" in favor of reference impedances. Vladimir Dmitriev-Zdorov agreed, noting that single-ended impedances should be assumed for mixed-mode ports; he asked what should be done if the single-ended impedances don't match for ports in a mixed-mode pair. Bob Ross suggested that the parser flag an error. Ken Wong agreed, and confirmed that the matched impedance assumption is used in at least one proprietary implementation. For port vs. terminal definitions and assumptions of reference nodes, the team agreed that this was best left to any "wrapper" around the file and should not be part of the file itself. Brad Brim noted that no risk exists from leaving the references for data ambiguous, as the math works out regardless of whether all the references are shorted together or not. Bob Ross asked whether remapping should be performed, to link single-ended ports together into mixed-mode ports as used in proprietary implementations. Vladimir noted that an example in the text would be useful with two pairs on each side, showing new designations. This could even include most common proprietary methods then the specification-defined way. Formal text to be provided in the next meeting. ======================================================================== Team Objectives: 1) complete ICM-IBIS linking BIRD and any associated changes to the ICM specification 2) update the ICM specification, if needed, to clarify the mapping of ICM nodes to S-parameter ports 3) complete a specification for "Touchstone Plus" or similar industry-standard definition for Touchstone-like files, to include complex impedance references, removal of limits on the maximum number of ports and per-port impedance references ------------------------------------------------------------------
